New Cadet Experience

By: C/AB Kavathekar

As a new cadet, Civil Air Patrol has been a really awesome experience for me. During my 10 weeks in CAP, I have participated in a lot of activities with the Squadron. Some of the things I did were the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall washing, Triple Play Weekend, volunteering at the Air National Guard base and my first O-Ride. All of these activities were fun and exciting. Triple Play Weekend was really interesting. I learned how to operate a tracking device that is used in Ground Team; the cadets and I participated in a mock search and rescue which turned out to be more realistic than I thought. No words can really describe my first O-Ride experience. Just the thought of piloting the plane sums it all in my mind. Indeed, the O-Ride was really exhilarating and breathtaking. The BTC meetings have been really challenging also, drill being the most challenging. I have learned that if you pay attention, focus and practice, CAP is a rewarding experience. Overall my experience in CAP as a new cadet has been challenging, disciplined, and fun.
