"Color Guard"
By: C/SMSgt Lopez, CAPWhen you hear the words "Color Guard", the first things that probably comes to mind is competition. While competition is the main reason why the Color Guard trains, it is not the only thing that the Color Guard does. Our recent Color Guard team went to the Wing Competition and received 1st place. Consequently, they went on to the Region Competition, and received 2nd place. This Color Guard is no longer known as the "B-CC Color Guard", but as the "Maryland Wing Color Guard." So may doors have been opened to the Color Guard as a result of this title. However, even though the season for Color Guard is over, it doesn't mean that the colors retire. In fact, the real work has just begun. The MDWG Color Guard has been asked to perform at various events including a DC parade, and a community parade. They have also been asked to march in a military event for Flag Day, and a small presentation for retired veterans. Their latest project is performing at the MDWG conference, which will be held from the 26th through the 28th of October. As a commander of the team, I'm proud to say that we have trained hard and accomplished a lot. But, there is still a lot more work to be done. Now that B-CC is starting to have a reputation for their Color Guard, the standards are being raised. This year, a whole new team is training. Their main focus right now is to get first place once again at the Wing Competition, and to get 1st place at Region. Their goal this year is also to receive the title, "Middle East Region Color Guard," and hopefully become the National Color Guard in June. Overall, I hope that training and perseverance will lead our Color Guard to victory, and that their teamwork will bring B-CC, success.
